Panel - Money Fund Rates & Regulations Roundtable

Session Description

Money fund expert Peter Crane will host a discussion on recent trends in money market yields, supply, and regulations impacting money funds and short-term “cash” investing. Topics will include:

  • the risks of rising rates and potential timetable of rate hikes
  • new securities and options for money market investors, including “enhanced cash” vehicles
  • fund company and investor preparations for pending new regulations.

The panelists will review recent asset trends, Fed actions and programs, and portfolio management techniques. The session will teach attendees about recent fund investment strategies and will review whether corporations are shifting away from floating NAV “prime” money funds and into Treasury and Government money markets and bank deposit products.

We will also review timetables for pending regulations and risks to investors posed by the new floating NAV funds, and by emergency gates & fees, and discuss the state of fund reorganizations and the emergence of new ultra-short WAM and private money funds.

The session will also discuss the Fed’s RRP “reverse repo” program and exit strategies. Both U.S. domestic money

Speaker Information

Peter Crane is President & Publisher of Crane Data, a money market and mutual fund information firm which produces Money Fund Intelligence and Crane’s Money Fund Symposium. He was previously Vice President & Managing Editor of iMoneyNet. Peter studied economics at Brown University and has been quoted extensively on money market funds.

Andrew Hollenhorst is an interest rate strategist at Citigroup. His weekly publication "Short-End Notes" provides in-depth analysis of the drivers of money market yields including Federal Reserve policy, regulation, market structure and economic fundamentals.

Andrew received a BA in math and economics from UC Berkeley and a PhD in economics from UCLA.

Craig Ferrero is a client advisor for J.P. Morgan Asset Management covering the Northeast U.S. for the Global Liquidity Corporate Team. An employee since 1995, he is responsible for working with institutions and providing them with global asset management solutions for their short-term balance sheet cash. Craig has been with the asset management group since 2001, and prior to that he worked in JPM's Treasury Services division, providing institutions with a variety of cash management solutions.

Craig holds a BA in economics from Union College and FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses, in addition to being a Certified Cash Manager (CCM).

Ronald Hill, Director, and Product Strategist, is a member of BlackRock's Cash Management team. He is the lead strategist for the cash management group, developing short-term investment solutions for clients and providing a link between the investment team and account managers. Prior to moving to his current role in 2007, he was a member of BlackRock's Client Group, where he was responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with cash management clients.

Ron earned his BS degree in finance from the University of Delaware in 1998 and an MBA from Wilmington University in 2008.
